The Televised World Poker Tour

Posted by · Leave a Comment

One of the things that forever changed poker and the way it is viewed is the televising of events. When television companies started airing poker tournaments people who didn’t know anything about the game started to get involved. Now people go out of their way to catch tournaments and have favorite players that they follow. In certain circles, poker players have celebrity status. One of the events that are routinely televised in the World Poker Tour, the whole point of having the World Poker Tour is so that the rest of the world can get involved and start playing poker. It is basically a very long drawn out commercial for poker.

Even though the World Poker Tour is supposed to be all over the world, a majority of the events are held in the United States. The number of US events has drawn a considerable amount of criticism from both fans and players in other parts of the world. While the criticism is certainly justifiable, the position of the event organizers is also understandable. While poker is steadily gaining international appeal, it is still primarily a US event. Most of the players and fans are in the United States, and the organizers want to please as many fans as they can. As interest in poker continues to grow, it is likely that more of the World Poker Tour events will start to be held in more countries all over the world.

One of the things that fans of the World Poker Stars Tour have come to learn is that they cannot anticipate which channel will be carrying the event. It first got its start by airing on the Travel Channel. Than it was picked up by GN. The show is currently being carried Fox Sports Net. The problem with the constant channel jumping is that it makes it difficult for fans of the event to know what cable package they should order. The best thing the fans can do is try to make arrangements for friends to DVR the event so that everyone can see it.

The event attracts players from all over the globe. Most of them are professionals though there are no rules about who can play. If an individual can afford to buy a seat on the tour, they are more than welcome to participate. The buy in is not cheap. It ranges from $2,500 to $25,000. If a person wants to participate but not want to buy into the game they can participate in one of the qualifying satellite tournaments.

The World PokerStars Download Tour has made a lasting mark on poker. Thanks to the fact that the event is televised people who would never have even thought about playing the game are starting to pick up a deck of cards and learning the rules of the game. The event has been around for seven seasons and it does not show any signs of stopping. If anything, people expect the event to grow in popularity.

The Low-Down on Three Card Poker Hand Rankings

Posted by · Leave a Comment

Poker is an extremely diverse family of games with different rules, betting structures, and inter-player relations. However, there is one thing that holds all of them together: the hand ranking system. A lot of poker fans are more familiar with five-card hand rankings, perhaps because five-card games happen to be the most popular ones. Indeed, many online sources discussing hand rankings will assume that you are only interested in those for five-card games.

Still, the FullTilt poker family would not be complete without games that do not use five-card hands, such as Three Card Poker. Of course, the plain fact that the number of cards is lower means that five-card rankings cannot be “translated” into three-card games without a little adjustment. Below, in descending order, are the hands to look out for in Three Card Poker.

Straight Flush

This is very similar to the five-card straight flush. Basically, it means that you have a group of cards all from the same suit, which are in perfect numerical sequence. For instance: Eight, Nine, and Ten, all hearts. However, not all straight flushes are equal. The higher the numerical value of your straight flush, the better. In that case, your best possible hand would be a royal flush, which would be an Ace, King, and Queen of the same suit.

Three of a Kind

This basically means three cards of the exact same rank. (Differing suits, of course. If you have two cards of the same rank and suit around, either your deck/dealing process is faulty or someone has just been caught cheating.) Once again, the highest numerical rank wins (i.e. three Sixes beat three Fours, etc.). You will notice that the Three of a Kind hand has a privileged position in this game. Since a hand has only three cards, players have less leeway than they would in a five-card hand, where two of the cards would be extraneous. In effect, a player in a five-card hand game would have two extra chances to get this hand right, but in Three Card Poker, those chances do not exist.

Straight

This would be a group of three cards in numerical order. The higher the value, the better.

Flush

Again, this is very similar to the five-card version of the hand. It is basically a straight flush, but with not all of the cards being of the same suit.

Pair

This would be two cards with the same value, plus an “extra” card. The higher the FullTiltPoker.net download value of the paired cards the better. However, it is possible that two players will get pairs of the same value (i.e. each player has two of the Queens). In that case, the tie-breaker would be the value of the extra card.

Nothing/High Card

Sometimes, a showdown happens wherein none of the abovementioned hands shows up. Everyone has “nothing,” i.e. no cards that match or are in straight numerical sequence. In that case, whoever has the card with the highest value wins. Of course, ties are possible. The players then compare their second-highest cards, then, if still necessary, their last cards.

Nine Player Sit and Go Strategy

Posted by · Leave a Comment

The most popular sit and go tournament played currently in poker online rooms is the simple nine player single table tournament. In these tournaments the top three players get paid money so you have a 33% chance of making money playing in these, but you need to remain consistent over the long run to make any serious money.

Depending on the blind structure you play at, and if there are any pokercheats.co, will deeply reflect how you play the tournament. If you’re playing with 15 minute blind intervals then you’ll be able to sit back and wait for some good hands to come to you. If you decide to play in turbo tournaments with 5 minute blind intervals then you need to be more prepared to play marginal hands and be willing to commit your chips early on. I personally would recommend playing regular blind tournaments with 15 minute intervals if you’re new to playing sit and go tournaments because it gives you more playing time.

The one thing you need to do in these tournaments is to limit the amount of hands you play past the flop, but play a lot of hands preflop especially when the blinds are low. When the blinds are low it’s worth playing to the flop so you can see if you can hit a straight or flush. When you do have a hand you feel is the best hand you need to make sure you bet it big and take full advantage of the hand. The goal you should aim for when playing in these tournaments is to play as little hands as possible, but when you do play hands you win a lot chips.

When you have a good hand preflop on Full Tilt Poker, and you have made sure there are no poker cheat players at the table, I would suggest raising the pot preflop so that you can get the marginal hands out of the pot. Nothing is worse then having a monster hand and losing to a horrible hand because you didn’t raise the pot preflop so make sure you always do. Winning a small pot is always better then losing a big pot. You also need to be willing to raise your opponents throughout hands when you think you can steal the pot from them. A lot of players will bluff fairly often so you need to be willing to find out sometimes whether or not they have a hand. Once you do this once the player will be careful about bluffing you again.

You also need to be willing to bluff in these Club WPT tournaments so that you aren’t losing blinds every time around the table. If you’re able to steal a small pot every time you go around the table then you’ll be able to wait for a big hand where you can try and double up. As the tournament progresses you should start limiting the amount of hands you play even more and aim to make it to the top three. Once you make it to the top three you can open up your game again and try things out, but don’t be to risky when you’re playing with 4-5 players left in the tournament.

Poker Variance and Bad Luck

Posted by · Leave a Comment

It should be a given that in a game of chance like poker, a losing streak doesn’t necessarily mean your tactics aren’t working—it instead means that, at times, even the best tactics can take you so far and the luck of the draw still has a great amount of influence on what you do. Variance can carry over a session or hourly basis as well; it cannot be emphasized enough that you can’t expect to win every hour of every day regardless of how good you are at bluffing, manipulating actions, poker math, and psyching out your opponents.

Poker income isn’t comparable to work income; you don’t have a basic salary when playing poker and it doesn’t matter how good or consistent you are at winning. There’s still the variable of luck to consider, and you shouldn’t let it hamper your style. Unfortunately, bad luck doesn’t only screws over the perception of some players because they play too high for their own good; it also destroys their mental game because luck can make them lose to weaker, inexperienced players.

Against all Poker Odds

Not knowing whether you’re at an advantage or disadvantage during the course of a poker stars download match is part of the beauty of this game; we usually don’t know when we have the best hand or expectations and when we don’t. With that said, there are certain instances where you should instead turn down an edge, advantage, or opportunity. In fact, the one significant different ring game and tournament game roots from this particular tactic; that is, turning down an obvious advantage for a long-term benefit is more common in tournament play than ordinary ring game play.

Manipulating Poker Odds

There are poker experts who contend that the beginning parts of a tournament requires you to play your basic ring game strategy so as not to overcomplicate things and allow you a steady segue between the differences of tournament and ring game play. This is a correct strategy, if a little flawed. In any case, one you’re finally in the final or advanced stages of the poker tournament, you should abandon altogether your basic ring game strategy or risk getting slaughtered by superior players.

To be true, your ring game strategy should be rooted more on the establishment of sufficient bankrolls. As such, because it’s very rare for you to have thousands of dollars in chips when you’re playing 10-20 in a tournament, it’s best to discard naive, ineffective tactics and start manipulating odds more to your favor with tournament-level methods. Knowing when and when not to seize an advantage is an advanced trick you’ll need in order to keep up with poker sharks and professionals.

Gambler’s Ruin

Poker odds all rely on one fact: that absolutepoker.net is a never-ending stream of altercations and conflict. There are times when you’re the big favorite to succeed, like when you play KK against 72o. Then there are other times when you’re instead the underdog, like when you’re playing against AA with a KK. Truly, the art of winning poker is a science and craft as well. Basically, in order to play poker correctly, you must get the best of it whenever you bet on money games. It’s a simple enough concept or idea to grasp, but it’s also quite accurate that there are times when you shouldn’t take advantage of the best odds whenever you chance upon them.

“Gambler’s Ruin” is a simple enough concept. It merely refers to the fact that if you’re a winning player, you can’t make any money if you’re broke; that is, once you lose your bankroll, it means you’ve lost the opportunity to earn money you could’ve gotten if you had that bankroll, so it’s obviously not just the loss of the money you’ll lose in the course of a poker match. Gambler’s Ruin usually happens whenever you over-bet your bankroll; this is one of the best times to not bet even if you’re at an advantage, because it influences your future betting ability down the line once you lose. There’s just too much disadvantage involved for you to entertain betting in this situation.

More single-table tournament strategy

Posted by · Leave a Comment

Unlike the early rounds of a single-table poker tournament, the middle rounds will introduce larger blinds to deal with. Not only this, but in most case you’ll be facing fewer players, as some already will have been knocked out of the tournament. So whereas you could play tight and let eight others fight it out while not losing much from a $2/$4 blind (or perhaps a little higher), now we’re faced with blinds as much as 10 times that amount, and fewer players to hide behind – or blend in with, as the case may be. As you would expect, these poker conditions require a shift in strategy to stay alive and prosperous.

Remember when I talked about not only playing safe and smart at the best online poker sites, but acting on your opportunities to position yourself as a chip leader as early as possible? Now’s the time you’ll wish you had listened, or thank me for that reminder. Because if your stack is the big obstruction at the table, you can and should start playing more aggressively to put the pressure on the rest of the table. Let’s say instead of 8-9, there are now 6 players left. Of the 4 that might stay in on a pre-flop betting round, you can estimate half are probably limping. It’s your job as the chip leader to put them to a decision before they can limp themselves to a leap-frog position over you in terms of hand strength. Be careful not to cross over into the bully realm, though, as one player is likely to call with a good hand and turn the tables on you. Getting a limper out isn’t worth a major risk to your chip lead on one hand, so don’t apply the heat if you don’t have enough lighter fluid to back it up and keep it going.

If you’re not the big stack party poker player, it’s important to change your strategy from the earlier rounds, which was playing tight. The bully stacks will be looking for you to continue your auto-fold mentality, so you have to throw them a few curve balls, and I guarantee they won’t be expecting it, either. All it takes is one well-placed “against the expected grain” bet to change the dynamics of the game. Suddenly a decent player leaning on a huge chip stack is falling over and subconsciously allows a timid, “just burned” mindset to affect how he plays. That opens the door to you or someone else making the kill and further narrowing the field.

2010 WSOP Freeroll Tournament Guide

Posted by · Leave a Comment

Most online poker rooms offer WSOP satellites 2010 freeroll tournaments for new players which are simply tournaments that are free to join and have cash prizes for the top finishers. Most freeroll tournaments have small prize pools, but you can’t complain because it doesn’t cost any money to play. Typically these free tournaments are also going to have a lot of players competing for the prize money so be prepared to play poker for hours on end when you join one of these tournaments.

Free Poker tournaments can be heartbreaking because you can play for hours near the leaderboard and then end up losing the tournament on one bad hand. This is why they are so hard to win money in, but they are still fun when you’re learning the game.

In the early stages of freeroll tournaments the action is going to be absolutely crazy and you should stay out of it as much you can unless you have a great hand. There will be plenty of all-ins early on because it’s a free tournament and most players want to get lots of chips or none at all. While players are going at each other you should sit tightly and wait for a good hand where you can double up. You should really only play hands where you have a chance at a big hand where you can go all-in on.

As the wsop tournaments progresses and your chip stacks become bigger you can begin playing more hands and trying to make some hands. You can start playing suited connectors and such hands in hopes of hitting a straight or flush. During the middle of the tournament you need to make a push for the top twenty positions so that you have a good shot at making the final table of the tournament.

The final table of the tournament is going to take hours to get to so you need to make sure that you are a patient poker player to get there. Once you get to the final table you need to start playing carefully and you shouldn’t be playing many hands. If you find that you’re playing a lot of hands early on at the final table then you need to slow down if you’re not hitting. Let the other players try and knock each other out so that you can make it down to the final three. Often the final three positions will win a bit of money, but sometimes only first place will win money. If you need to win first place then you should be trying to work on building your stack during the final table so you can compete once it’s down to only a few of you.

Freeroll tournaments on full tilt poker aren’t ideal for most poker players unless you’re new to the game because only the top few positions are paid and it takes hours to play. If you can pay for your own bankroll then it’s much better and you’ll be able to win more money, but if you can’t then one way to build a free bankroll is by playing in freeroll tournaments in the many online poker rooms.
